Economic Actors Persuade European Politicians to Expand Trades with Iran

TEHRAN (CBI PR dept) – In a meeting with Carlos Tavares, CEO and Chairman of the management board of Groupe PSA, the Governor of Central Bank of I.R.Iran stressed the decisive role of economic actors longing to work in Iran in persuading European politicians to eliminate obstacles in the way of trade development.

"With regard to the vast commercial cooperation capacity between our countries, especially in the field of the automotive industry, convening such meetings can be a turning point to resume economic relations.” added Valiollah Seif emphasizing taking opportunities in post JCPOA era.

He pointed to the distinct attributes of Iran for the mass production of French automobiles and said: “As the Minister of Industry, Mine & Trade arranged, a unique opportunity has bloomed that can only be utilized by resolving banking issues and problems.”
CBI Governor acknowledged that reconstruction of international banking relations especially with European banks is vital and a priority for Iranian economy and added: “Central Bank of Iran aims to mend, fortify and extend these ties. It seems actors in real sector of economy and French businessmen could play a major role in this matter which needs to be taken into consideration.”
“Shortly after the implementation of JCPOA, we commenced negotiations to settle our arrears to trade credit insurance institutions, including Coface of France. Thus, another impediment to expand trade and economic ties with Iran was removed” said the Chairman of Money and Credit Council.
He recollected French government’s strict stance during nuclear negotiations and added: "Now that nine months have passed from implementation of this agreement, France must be true and adamant to its initial position and insist on the exact execution of the terms of JCPOA.”
“When we talk about expansion of Iran-France economic ties, there is always a third party present to impede them because it is not the beneficiary in these expansions. The deal with Airbus to buy 118 aircrafts during Iranian President’s visit to France confirms this. After nearly eight months from implementation day, OFAC permitted Iran to purchase only 17 Airbus planes, while the American Boeing company was able to obtain permission to sell 80 aircrafts to Iran. It is the United States that acts non-transparently while Europe is silent about this.” Seif said.
In this meeting, Carlos Tavares, CEO and Chairman of the management board of Groupe PSA announced that Peugeot, Citroën and DS Automobiles partner up with counterparty Iranian companies and said: "We are keen to work in Iran and to facilitate it; we certainly will convey our feedback to French politicians to fix the banking complications. I believe French government should look forward to be able to benefit from business ties."
Also, after this meeting, Hassan Yaghubi Miab, International Director General of CBI and the representatives of Iranian Banks discussed the terms of their cooperation with the French delegation.
